Description: This footed ceramic bowl is approx.. 6 ½” diameter x 2 ¼” high. It is glazed with a grey-green exterior glaze and a green-blue interior. It is marked “Winifred Phillips, 1942” on the bottomas well as some additional paint markings (ic/#2/cc). The bowl is in very good vintage condition. Notes: Winifred Phillips (1880-1963) was best known for her work with ceramics, but was also a painter, printmaker and art educator. She attended the Wisconsin School of Art under Alexander Mueller and Gustave Moeller and also studied at the Pratt Institute in New York and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1915, she studied ceramics at the School of Fine and Applied Arts in Alfred, New York and later attended Cranbrook Academy to study with Maija Grotell. She was an frequent exhibitor and prize winner at the Syracuse Ceramic Nationals from 1933 through 1958. She is in the permanent collection of the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, New York. Phillips is also represented in the Walker Art Center, the Minneapolis Art Institute, the Museum of Wisconsin Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
