Product Description:

Vintage Jacomena Maybeck Studio Pottery Vessel Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage studio art pottery vase by the listed California artist, Jacomena Maybeck. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This hand thrown pot has a broad opening, with a narrow foot. It has gloss and semi-matte brown glazes, with thick drips to the lower exterior. This item stands approximately 8 1/16 inches tall; it has a maximum width of about 6 7/8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 4 pounds 5.6 ounces. I've owned several pieces by this artist, and this is the largest and most impressive that I've had. This would be a fine addition to a collection of vintage American studio ceramics. Identification This piece is by Jacomena Maybeck (1901-1996). Maybeck is listed in the Vasefinder online museum. Per Vasefinder, Jacomena Maybeck was born in Java to Dutch parents. Her family moved to Crockett, California in 1908. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1927, and married Wallen Maybeck (son of architect Bernard Maybeck) that year. After World War II, Maybeck was in Germany, where she started working with clay. Upon returning to the U.S., she took a class with Edith Heath. Subsequently, she enrolled at the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC), where studied under Tony Prieto; she graduated with her M.A. in 1952. Maybeck was an assistant and then a teacher at the CCAC from 1946 to 1978. She exhibited at the Pacific Coast Ceramic Exhibitions during the 1950s. She also exhibited at the Association of San Francisco Potters, the California State Fair, and at the 1959 California College of Arts and Crafts 30 Distinguished Alumni exhibit. Condition The vase looks great overall, with light wear. There are no cracks or chips. Variations in glazing are as made. Please review the photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying. Terms of Sale 1. Sales Tax Before merchandise is shipped to a California address (or picked up or delivered within California), sales tax will be collected, unless the buyer provides a properly completed and valid California resale certificate form by mail (or in person, in the case of pick up or delivery). No exceptions. 2. Payments The buyer must prepay before merchandise is released. Paypal payments over $250 will only be accepted if delivery is to an address with a confirmed status. A signature will be required for delivery if the total Paypal payment for merchandise inside the parcel is greater than $250. Contact the seller in advance of bidding or buying to find out about accepted payment methods for local pick ups or deliveries. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. 3. Shipping and Handling Good packaging is included; double-boxing is not included. Framed art will not be shipped unframed. The seller typically ships on Mondays and Thursdays, unless a holiday or special circumstance precludes it. If payment is via Paypal, the merchandise will be shipped on the seller's next shipping day after payment clears. The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier. Economy shipping within the U.S. includes delivery to a physical address via an economy shipping method of the seller's choice. At the discretion of the seller, a faster shipping method may be utilized at no additional cost to the buyer. If the buyer prefers a different shipping method other than that chosen by the seller, or if delivery is to a post office box, additional shipping and handling costs may be required. If international shipping is available, this will be indicated on the "Shipping and Payments" tab. International shipping is not free for the buyer; shipping costs are not negotiable. Shipping quotes must be requested prior to all international bidding or buying. The seller will determine the international shipping method(s). Some merchandise may be too large to be shipped to certain countries. Some countries have restrictions or prohibitions on certain classes of merchandise. The seller will only use legal shipping methods. Customs forms will not be falsified. International buyers, please note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when the item is picked up; do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. The seller does not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as gifts. U.S. and international government regulations prohibit such behavior. 4.
