James Morris Cotter Studio Art Pottery Vase Description and Item Information Up for sale is this studio art pottery vase by the listed California artist, James Morris Cotter. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This vase has stunning decoration of whales, which repeats three times around its sides. This pot stands approximately 11 1/8 inches tall; it has a maximum width of about 4 3/8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 2 pounds 7.1 ounces. This would be a great addition to a collection of American studio ceramics. Identification This pot is by the Yuba City, California potter, James Morris Cotter. Cotter is listed in the Vasefinder online museum. Per Vasefinder, Cotter was born in Albany, New York in 1940. His interest in pottery began in high school in Yuba City. He studied at University of Nevada, Reno before attending CSU Chico; he graduated with a degree in art and a teaching credential from CSU Chico. Cotter studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts for a year, and there he was the student of Viola Frey and Vernon Coykendall. He served in the Navy during Vietnam; then, he began a teaching position at Yuba City High School, where he taught art for almost twenty years. After that position, Cotter taught at Yuba Community College. Besides pottery, he produced paintings, prints, and bronze, stone, and wood sculptures. Condition The vase looks great overall, with light wear to the base. There are no cracks or chips. Variations in glazing are as made. No exceptions. 2. Payments The buyer must prepay before merchandise is released. Paypal payments over $250 will only be accepted if delivery is to an address with a confirmed status. Contact the seller in advance of bidding or buying to find out about accepted payment methods for local pick ups or deliveries. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. 3. Shipping and Handling Good packaging is included; double-boxing is not included. Framed art will not be shipped unframed. The seller typically ships on Mondays and Thursdays, unless a holiday or special circumstance precludes it. If payment is via Paypal, the merchandise will be shipped on the seller's next shipping day after payment clears. The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier. Economy shipping within the U.S. includes delivery to a physical address via an economy shipping method of the seller's choice. At the discretion of the seller, a faster shipping method may be utilized at no additional cost to the buyer. If the buyer prefers a different shipping method other than that chosen by the seller, or if delivery is to a post office box, additional shipping and handling costs may be required. For domestic parcels, a signature will be required for delivery if the total Paypal payment for merchandise inside the parcel is greater than $250 (excluding California sales tax). If international shipping is available, this will be indicated on the "Shipping and Payments" tab. International shipping is not free for the buyer; shipping costs are not negotiable.
